Director James Cameron has arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, to shoot his 3-D SF epic movie Avatar, the local Dominion Post newspaper reported.
The newspaper reported that 80 fake-gun-toting, camouflage-wearing stuntpeople and actors gathered for days of rehearsals in a secret location in the small Kiwi community.
Cameron is shooting the film using a new 3-D process, and the movie will feature a blend of live-action photography and virtual photo-realistic production techniques invented by his team.
Some work on the film has already been done in Los Angeles and Hawaii.
New Zealand native Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital effects house is supervising the visual effects, and 31 days of additional live photography will take place on Weta’s soundstages, the newspaper reported. The cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Giovanni Ribisi, Zoe Saldana and Michelle Rodriguez.
